I Would Like to be Brainwashed by Elite Liberal Media. Can Someone Help Me Find Them?
I would very much like to be brainwashed by the elite liberal media, but I cannot find them.
This was driven home to me by the opening of historian Heather Cox Richardson’s May 12 Letters from an American:
The biggest story in the country, today and always, is that the president of the United States is mentally unwell.
Except, to judge by the much-derided-as-liberal-shills Mainstream Media, Trumps’ mental health was no story at all in the last week or most days. On the day Richardson wrote that sentence, the New York Times had nothing to say about Trump’s mental health.
Richardson had a lot to say. She wrote that over three hours the night before, Trump had posted on social media 55 times. Richardson gives a lengthy account which is well worth reading. One lowlight was a post accusing Barack Obama of treason. He posted an AI image of Obama, Joe Biden, and Nancy Pelosi swimming “in a filthy version of the reflecting pool” captioned “Dumacrats Love Sewage.” He posted an image of himself on the $100 bill. He called House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries “Low IQ”, his favorite attack line for African Americans.
Data journalist G. Elliott Morris wrote at his Strength in Numbers Substack of a Pew Research Center poll showing the public has increasing concerns about Trump’s mental health.
Trump often unleashes these social post bombardments overnight or in the wee hours of the morning. By now it is a commonplace to see photos of Trump nodding off at public events throughout the daylight hours.
British journalist Alex Hannaford wrote a lengthy piece about 36 U.S. doctors who had “issued a statement calling for Trump’s immediate removal from office for medical reasons.” The doctors argued that Trump’s decline presents a danger to the public. That coverage was in The Independent of the United Kingdom.
Independent journalist Aaron Rupar follows Trump every single day and continually updates on social media about what Trump is up to. Here is what Rupar has to say:
It’s really difficult to cover him in a way that conveys how unhinged he is…. in reality, when you actually watch his rallies, you see that they’re full of hatred, he’s lying constantly, and a lot of it is incoherent.
The Rupar interview was published in The Times. Of London.
Trump is almost 80, has the nuclear codes, and recently threatened to wipe out an ancient civilization. I’m only a humble news consumer, but it seems like a daily story to me.
Let us also consider a recent piece for The New Yorker by Zach Helfand about Trump’s Secretary of Education, “How Professional Wrestling Prepared Linda McMahon for Trump’s Cabinet.” The gist is that Linda McMahon must be one hell of a businesswoman, just look at how she has managed to navigate successfully while working for (or with) two of the biggest assholes in the world, Trump and her husband Vince McMahon.
One example Helfand recounts of Linda’s business magic was her handling of the case of Tom Cole. In 1992 Cole, then 21, was ready to file suit alleging that the McMahon’s company, World Wrestling Federation (now World Wrestling Entertainment), had turned a blind eye to sexual abuse he suffered from WFF employees as a minor working as a “ring boy”. Linda got Cole and the lawsuit to go away. I’ll have much more to say about the Cole case in subsequent posts.
But what caught my eye was what did not catch my eye.
Helfand never mentioned a pending lawsuit in Maryland brought by eight former ring boys (now seven, as one plaintiff has been dismissed), alleging that each of them was sexually molested by WWE personnel while working as minors. The accusations are horrific. Linda has been dismissed as a defendant in cases brought by five plaintiffs but remains as a defendant in the complaints of the other two. Vince is a defendant in all seven cases, and the WWE is a defendant in all seven. At all times, Linda McMahon was a corporate officer at WWE. All three defendants deny the allegations made against them.
Yeah, that didn’t make it into Helfand’s narrative. Why break into a good story with a downer about McMahon allegedly ignoring a childhood sexual abuse ring?
NPR’s “Fresh Air” interviewed Helfand about his story. Host Dave Davies never brought up the litigation brought by the seven former ring boys. Davies never even asked Helfand about the Cole case!
So much for the elite liberal biased media brainwashing us with leftist propaganda!
The Times (of New York) still does a lot of great work. Take a look at their in-depth reporting on several figures named in the Epstein files. A lot of other media do, too. Richardson regularly cites the work of outstanding journalists.
But really, when Trump’s mental fitness is plain to see or there are credible accusations that the Secretary of Education turned a blind eye to child sexual abuse, why does the MSM turn a blind eye?

Et tu, The New Yorker and NPR? It’s like living in Alice’s Tea Party.
